Summer in Southwark; all the fun to keep boredom at bay

25 July 2019

Become a forensic scientist, take a trip into space or help create the next piece of modern art - there’s plenty to do in Southwark this summer, the only limit is your imagination.

Once again Southwark Council has pulled together the best activities, events and organisations from around the borough to keep children and young people entertained throughout the school holidays.

In Southwark there is no excuse for boredom with dozens of activities and events taking place all over the summer – and many of them for free, low costs or discounts using the Southwark Presents card.

Cllr Evelyn Akoto, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Public Health, said: “Southwark is a great place to keep young people entertained and active this summer. Whether they are interested in sports, books, arts, theatre or just getting together with their friends and doing something different there will be something going on to keep them entertained and maybe even build skills and experiences that will open their eyes to new challenges and a more positive future.”

Highlights include:

CSI:Peckham - funded by the Peckham is Open programme this is a three day event giving young people the chance to use some of the skills needed to become a forensic scientist while working with their fellow ‘Peckhamites’; talking to members of their community that prevent crime, solve it and help those affected by it.

Art Assassins - work with professional contemporary artists, filmmakers and designers at the South London Gallery to create new and exciting projects for other young people.

Summer reading challenge - the theme of this summer’s reading challenge is the Space Chase, inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.

You can find out more about these events and many, many more on the council’s website at www.southwark.gov.uk/summer
