Proposals for future of Walworth Town Hall now open for consultation
30 November 2018
Residents in Southwark have the chance to give their views on two exciting proposals for the future of the Grade II listed Walworth Town Hall that was gutted by fire in 2013.
Following expressions of interest earlier this year, Southwark Council has narrowed it down to two main proposals - from Castleforge and General Projects - to find investors and help council bring the building back into use.
Cllr Johnson Situ, Cabinet Member for Growth, Development and Planning, said: “We believe these are two strong proposals that will help bring the town hall back into use and provide new and exciting community facilities.
“However we would like to hear from local people and see what they think of the ideas on the table and I would encourage people to get involved in the consultation and have their say.”
Summaries of the proposals can be viewed and consultation questions answered on the council’s consultation hub
Responses will feed into an evaluation of the proposals leading to a report to Cabinet in spring 2019.
Residents will also be able to see the proposals and meet the bidders at a public presentation at the Art Academy, 155 Walworth Road on Wednesday 12 December at 7pm, hosted by Southwark Council and the Walworth Society.
There will also be three drop in sessions at the Art Academy to discuss the proposals with the bidders at the following dates:
- Wednesday 12 December, 5pm to 7pm
- Thursday 13 December, 3pm to 5pm
- Saturday 15 December, noon to 2pm
