Southwark celebrates A-Level and BTEC students success
20 August 2018
Provisional results show that students in Southwark have once again performed above the national average. A greater proportion of our young people have secured places at Russell Group Universities to take up study in areas such as history, law and medicine.
Year on year more Southwark students are entering for A levels and provisional estimates for 2018 are set to be above the final figure of 2090 A level exam entries in 2017. It has also been a record year for BTEC qualifications. BTEC courses are high quality, hands-on qualifications grounded in the real world of work and /or progression into university and essential for our young people looking to embark upon their employment career.
Cllr Jasmine Ali, Cabinet Member for children, schools and adult care said: “On behalf of Southwark Council, congratulations to everyone who collected exam results last Thursday. Opening that envelope on results day is without a doubt a highly nerve-wracking experience, for parents, teachers but especially for students themselves.
“It is fantastic to see Southwark students are holding their own against the national average. These results continue to reflect the high standard of teaching and attainment that we are so proud of here across the borough.
“There are so many options available to young people from apprenticeships to further and higher education. I would like to thank Southwark schools for their part in providing our young people with a strong foundation for the future and setting them on a pathway for of lifelong success at every level.
“I sincerely hope that all young people in Southwark received the results that help them on their way to achieving what they want out of life.”
