Carers
There are a significant number of carers in Southwark, providing support to friends, family and loved ones. Their contribution to supporting the health and wellbeing of those being cared for is substantial, and yet evidence suggests carers themselves are at risk of poor physical, mental and financial health outcomes. Our work shows that there are also significant inequalities faced by this group. Improving the health and wellbeing of carers is an important local priority, both for the carer and for those they provide support to.
Southwark Public Health together with key partners and stakeholders have produced many documents identifying local carer population needs. Our JSNA recommends eight areas of action to address the unmet needs of local carers.
