Advice about homelessness

HomefinderUK

Homefinder UK is a national housing mobility scheme that brings social housing applicants, properties and landlords together, all in one portal.

With a fast-growing supply of properties nationwide, this scheme helps homeless households, applicants living in Temporary Accommodation, private sector tenants threatened with homelessness, victims of domestic abuse and gang violence, overcrowded households and social tenants, who want or need to move, to find a home that better matches their household size and personal and financial circumstances. To be eligible for the scheme, you must be willing to move out of the borough to another part of the country.

Homefinder UK offers the following type of schemes/properties:

  • immediately available social housing properties
  • REVIVE – relocation service for domestic abuse survivors
  • mutual exchange
  • wheelchair accessible
  • retirement/sheltered housing

Case Management Service

Homefinder UK offers personalised support to applicants considering a long-distance move. Whatever help you need with finding the right social housing property, the Homefinder UK Case Management Team can help. Whether that means sourcing the property for you in your chosen location or helping you with the registration process, no task is too big, or too small!

Relocation service for domestic abuse survivors

Homefinder UK has a specialist case management service called Revive to support those who are fleeing domestic abuse in finding a new home in a different area of the country. The Revive team will source properties, liaise with all parties involved, identify support networks and help applicants to settle in the new area. How do I find out which properties are available?

Properties are made available by landlords and advertised on the Homefinder UK website. They also offer mutual exchanges through House Exchange and access to the government's Homeswap Direct service. By registering on Homefinder UK, applicants can see all immediately available homes and mutual exchanges.

We've joined the scheme to offer our social housing applicants more choice and opportunity to find suitable homes. Homefinder UK is not run by the council.

How to apply for a new home through Homefinder UK?

You need to follow these 4 easy steps to find a new home:

  1. Your caseworker will refer you to the service and ask you to complete a commitment form
  2. Your application will have to be approved by the Housing Solutions team
  3. Find and apply (express interest) for a property with help from your Homefinder UK case manager
  4. View and sign up for the property – arranged by a Homefinder UK case manager.

If all goes well, Homefinder UK can arrange a move within a couple of weeks!
