Dog micro-chipping
Microchipping means your dog can be identified if it gets lost or stolen. A tiny micro-chip about the size of a grain of rice is inserted under the dog's skin.
The procedure is quick and will not hurt your animal. The chip gives the dog a unique code, and stores details such as the dog's name and breed, and the owner's name and contact details. This information is then registered on a database, for dogs to be easily identified.
If you do not get your dog chipped you may be served with a notice instructing you to do so within 21 days. If you fail to do so, you could be fined up to £500.
Southwark Council is introducing a Public Space Protection Order to tackle dog-related anti social behaviour, which will be effective from 19 March 2018. You can find out more here.
Micro-chip your dog
Several organisations currently offer free microchipping services, such as The Dogs Trust and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
If your dog is already microchipped you should ensure your details are kept up to date. Contact Petlog on 0870 606 6751 to update your details.
