Forum for equality and human rights in Southwark

Working with the community is fundamental to us, especially in relation to equality and human rights.

We engage with the community through a wide range of channels, including those with interest in key issues around equality. We actively look for feedback on proposals where appropriate.

Understanding our service users is central to our approach to equality. When analysing the effects of our decisions, we use robust information to understand who uses our services and what effect potential changes are likely to have on them. In some cases, this will include speaking directly with service users and undertaking surveys and research.

We've commissioned the community organisation Forum for Equality and Human Rights in Southwark (FEHRS) to act as a 'critical friend' to support and challenge us. FEHRS helps to ensure our policies are as fair as possible. If you'd like more information about FEHRS, see Southwark Legal Advice Network

We also encourage and engage with staff equality groups and trades unions who provide support to our staff and provide forums within the council.
