How to become a carer

Carers need to:

  • live in or close to Southwark
  • have space in their home for a child to relax and play
  • be able to care for a child for two full days a month (generally at the weekends)
  • be able to care for a child with a severe disability; this may be a physical or learning disability or social and communication disability such as autism
  • be able to attend training, supervision meetings and annual reviews
  • have lots of energy, enthusiasm and understanding

For potential carers who going through the application process, you will be supported by a member of the team and be asked to attend preparation training to prepare you for your role as a carer.
