How to become a carer
Carers need to:
- live in or close to Southwark
- have space in their home for a child to relax and play
- be able to care for a child for two full days a month (generally at the weekends)
- be able to care for a child with a severe disability; this may be a physical or learning disability or social and communication disability such as autism
- be able to attend training, supervision meetings and annual reviews
- have lots of energy, enthusiasm and understanding
- be a non smoker
For potential carers who going through the application process, you will be supported by a member of the team and be asked to attend preparation training to prepare you for your role as a carer.
The needs of the children are carefully matched to the skills, interests and background of the carer so that successful, long term links can be made.
