Visit your waste facility
Want to know what happens to your recycling and rubbish?
Southwark residents can get behind the scenes at their local waste management facility. In the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) you can see your recycling being sorted into different streams by machine and hand. In the Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) facility waste is processed into fuel before being sent to the SELCHP energy recovery facility nearby to be turned into electricity for 48,000 homes and heat and hot water for 2,800 homes.
